Inspired by a feral calico who so loved our dog, Pepper, that she overcame her fear of us and the house to be with him in our home.  For years, we were unable to touch her; but, after he passed, she started looking a little "ratty"; so we took matters in hand, beautifying her to her full potential.  Now, she is a full-fledged family member who loves her  "momma" & "daddy".

Her name:  Little Sister Patches Sweet Lass the Brave O'Talver  ........Patches

I love her. She knows it’s true, And I'm pretty sure She loves me too. Yes, I know, She is much younger; But each of us Has our own hunger. She seems to Love my touch, As if she could Never feel too much. And, yes, my wife Knows of our affair; Caught her in my lap, But didn’t seem to care. This evening, my wife said, “You’re awfully sweet to her.” “I can’t help it, Honey…. I just love to hear that purr.”

I love poems that have an unexpected twist at the end! I honestly didn't know what to make of this poem until the very, last, word. It seemed the voice and his wife were awfully casual about his so-called affair! Then, when the light bulb above my head came on, it made me giggle. I am a cat person, and they do make you feel loved, don't they! Great poem.
