Miss Lucy
She was locked away in the chest, among so many treasured things
The fragrant scent of cedar, holds a thousand memories
Tucked beside my mother's dress, and the box with grandma's ring
She was gently wrapped in tissue, and holds my childhood dreams
To hold once more sweet Miss Lucy, this treasured Christmas doll
would seem as if she's sleeping, with her ringlets shining gold
My favorite doll from childhood, where childhood still unfolds
I could whisper all my secrets, her expression never changed
She would offer reassurance, and today it feels the same
With her composition face, eyes cobalt blue
She might look a bit ragged....but perhaps you would too
If you'd been lost in the rain, or left out in the yard
Or tossed in the back seat of Daddy's old car
She was dragged by one foot, while I sucked on my thumb
Was chewed by our dog....and got sticky with gum
I would cry when once I lost her...and would sob through long dark nights
But by daylight we would find her, a bit soggy, but all right
Poor Lucy has had her troubles, has gone through many trials
One eye is stuck, her ribbons gone...but she still has a smile
Some hair strands may be missing, but what matters most to me
I still have precious Lucy....and is beautiful to me
