“ MISS KITTY” … KNEW My last week, knew you understood I had come to my end. I was sorta your husband’s cat, but you … always my friend. My end could have been easier, had family understood. But they had their own ideas, didn’t do … what they should. Didn’t crawl under piano, sit with me late at night. They didn’t listen to you, you tried to do things … right. You begged them to just let me die, my life not try prolong. Instead they, took me to the Vet. way they cared … was so wrong. Forced fed me when I couldn’t eat, efforts made me feel worse. While they slept, we sat together,’ you my friend … loving nurse. I’d crawled, from under piano so by your side could lay. Way they chose put me to sleep, done In such an awful … way. Heard you ask them, ‘please wake you’, you wanted last hours with me. Didn’t wake you, you didn’t see treated careless … as could be. Took hood off carrier, me scared insecure, in midair! Suddenly you ran out crying, mad … seeing me up there. Your tears fell on my face, kissed me like you use to do. They made you leave me; why was I forced to die … without you/ Fifteen years in your arms, at Vet. why this way forced to die? As they made you leave me, I felt your wet tears … heard you cry. God saw them bury me, those three, you were excluded there. Hysterical, called friend who loves pets ... my death with her share. God saw your pain was multiplied, way family treated you. Know you wanted to hold me yet nothing … you could do.… Fifteen years belonged to husband. but loved you, as my Friend.” May this Truth ease your pain, I knew, “You loved me … till the end.” June 26, 2022 copyright Contest: Personification of Pet Sponsor: Constance La France

What a heartfelt and poignant poem. I felt your every thought and yes, I needed a hanky for this one. We had a 19-year-old cat that died and my hubby and I cried. A week later we adopted a new cat because we couldn't stand the void. Congrats on the win and Brava, my friend.

Franci, We both know each other's pain. I still have a 15 year old small mutt. She may be next to put to sleep. A stray huge MainCoon cat we've had since right before Covid. She is for sure a gift from God. Love her more than I can express. Thanks for visiting.

Constance, you're acknowledging me with a win ... is well ... more appreciated than you know. It really soothed my heartache, for poem is sadly true! A friend posted her photo on facebook for me, a beautiful Maine Coon. Thanks my friend.

A wonderful personification poem with emotions beautifully expressed, Barbara. IMO, pets are family and it's hard to come to terms when they meet their demise. We lost our 19-year-old cat, Jan. 2020, and couldn't handle the void. On Feb. 14, 2020, we adopted the cat we have now. A home is not a home without a cat. :)

Franci, hello friend. I agree a home must have a cat. A huge Main Coon adopted us two years ago, so eased the loss. The situation hurt as badly as the loss. Thanks for visiting.

Lovely personification, Barbara... With my penchant for shortening -- some might say short-changing -- everything, here's a quick summary: With kittens, it's 'Hiss-or-Kiss!' lol. Laughter and Levity, Gershon

Barbara, growing up, our family's Irish Setter would only curl-up and nap with me, we had a strong bond, he's waiting with my pa for me on the other side ..

James, it did grip tight. I cried two hours writing this. Was good to let pent up grief have an outlet in tears. Thank you and. please don't hold on to regrets. Your pet knew you loved it too, and sure you gave it a great life, Be proud not sad.

Nicely done, Barbara. It’s so sad when our furry friends have to leave. Still, we’re left with good memories. Each one of them are unique personalities!
