Miss Kentucky April

Miss Kentucky April arrives on gentle breeze Blowing the new-born leaves on ornamental trees, But we know Miss April is playing us a trick, Dangerous hard hailstorms can pop up just as quick. April always seems like the beginning of spring But the middle of the month can easily bring A peppering of light snowflakes come drifting down, The sudden cold temperatures will make us frown. “It is just blackberry winter,” our elders say Hoping the sudden cold weather will soon give way, When Miss April bursts of color in daffodils Dandelions and violets the meadow fills Before we know it, Miss April brings blowing rains, Clogging gutters, occasionally our storm drains. Miss April says to put away our winter coat For winter is over, and that is all she wrote! Written April 10, 2021 FIRST PLACE WINNER Brian Strand's "All Yours" Contest Poetry Soup - May 11, 2021

This is such a terrific description of Iowa's April and Nebrska's April and Missouri's April and Kansas's April too! "But the middle of the month can easily bring A peppering of light snowflakes come drifting down, The sudden cold temperatures will make us frown." Wow!

Thanks, Caren...it's north-eastern Kentucky here. April is two-faced!
