Misconception

How disheartening to realize our illusions Were but naïve misconceptions about aging People don’t necessarily become wiser with age Many become bitterly selfish petty and vindictive Blessed are those who age gracefully because It’s disenchanting to get hurt and learn the hard way Blessed are the kind the givers who see beauty in all Have optimism in every breath and live with integrity Blessed who grow creatively to give back to the world When their desire is to leave this planet a better place AP: 2nd place 2020 Submitted on June 4, 2019 for A CONTEST ON AGING sponsored by EMILE PINET

Very nicely done. "Blessed are the kind the givers who see beauty in all Have optimism in every breath and live with integrity" This is what we can all strive to do.

Hi Line: A very wise and sage poetic statement! We all reach a stage where we sense vunerability. But we must prepare ourselves for the last hurrah!

The second stanza has been my life theme via my beloved Mama for a good ten years now. Now that she's 83, I've stopped trying to snap her back to right thinking. Your write is right, and to God I do pray to be one who grows onward rather than old, with smile wrinkles and eye twinkles; staying out of the past is a big part of succeeding. You nailed it, Line. Poetry hugs .... CayCay

Beautiful, wise thoughts, Line. Great advice to keep in mind for those other poets who are aging. (You and I are only getting younger, of course). G.L. in the contest. :) gw
