Mirrored Shadows
I glance in the mirror and am startled to see.
The reflection of a woman that I don't know.
Something in her gaze has captured me.
I want to turn away, but can't let go.
The color of our eyes, we share.
Hazel with flecks of brown and green.
The similarities end there,
hidden behind a shadowy screen.
Her eyes are devoid of any glimmer of light,
despite the brightness of the day.
Sadness lurks within her guarded sight,
conveying the meaning of words she can't say.
I believe there once was a smile,
a twinkle of humor shining through.
But many a long tortured mile,
was spent searching for what was true.
The pain within, filters through her eyes.
I stare intently, then look away.
For I can now recognize,
the mirrored shadows that my eyes display.
