Mirror of Memories

I hold a name Oh no! I forgot it Let me ask….. oh no! I forgot his name too Yes, I remember my eyes, nose and lips I know my face, I have seen this But my name! Oh Yeah, Katy I am Ha ha ha funny to forget my name But how on earth, all of a sudden, I wonder! Jake must know why Oh yeah, he is Jake, my hubby Who sings romantic lullaby Why I forget things too often He says I am careless and to focus But I already forgot how! I wonder! what if I forget everything You, me and everything I see a different i in the mirror Doctor said its Alzhiemer’s Oh yes, that’s the word ‘Alzheimer’s’ Let me write it down before I forget Oh no, I forgot the alphabets I see dancing alphabets, C, M, U, K Let me sit in the kindergarten again I see dreams fading I see memories fading Fading to void behind a veil I wish I could unveil I wish I could rephrase I wish I could born again But, Who are you? With a pair of beautiful eyes, a nose and lovely lips Are you next door? What is your name and Why do you reflect whatever I say? -puvi- (20/11/2015)

You tell a story with such freshness and reality that it soon attaches itself to our reality and we take partial ownership of the emotions poured forth. A broken path of memories as one is led upon a trail of moments lost to Alzheimer's. Emile.

I can only imagine the confusion and helplessness patients feel. I know how upset I become when I can't remember a common name. It bothers me until I remember it. It must be so difficult and scary knowing that the disease will only grow worse and more will be forgotten even loved ones and the ability to do things for oneself. Your poem touches on the beginning fears with brave acceptance. Bravo! #7 My best friend has forgotten who I am.
