Mirage

I walked the desert
In search for the drink
Of your kiss.
I left my camel, saddles, and compass.
For I was too heavy
To carry.
Longing for you
Tapping around snakes and scorpions
Enduring sand storms
And the stinging thirst
Of our separation.
Spending solemn nights
Inside freezing evenings
My sandals stuck in the sticky stuccos
Of desert showers.
Passing through an hourglass
Grinding through granular time
To meet you again.

You are a genie in a bottle
Floating recklessly across oceans
Hemispheres away.
With your histories and body
To be found by another.
Your hips sway in the water
With the moon directing
You to unknown shores
To grant the sacred wishes
I desperately seek.

Orange-burnt by the past
I trudge slowly towards a future
Of peaches, pleasures, and palaces
Unaware of direction
My footsteps buried in the sand.
Hoping to unearth the treasure
Of another chance.

In the distance, I see an Ocean.
The beaches, the sand, the palms.
The white crescents of waves
Parading in perfect march towards
The majestic sand.
Reaching my hands out
Crying out my Victory
I take one last grasp at the prize.
The glass bottle floats
To the opposite shore.
I stand in the Sun
Battered, blistered, and broken.
Reaching out to you
My palms and pallet parched.
Tortured by the taste of touch.
With empty hands.
