Notes About The Poem

Mirabilis jalapa

All the hot summer days I am found, sleeping late in my bed, Dreaming of dusk and getting beauty rest, before sunset red; For I'm an opal night owl, my scent blooms open all night long. I am called Mirabilis jalapa, or four o'clocks, adoring birdsong. I am yellow and deep pink stripes, beloved by hummingbirds, And grape sun butterflies, when time seems to go backwards. I keep a daily appointment with destiny, at about four o'clock, As I love pearly moon more than sun, when dancing in my frock!

I became quite fond of four o'clocks when my mother grew them in her garden. They were beautiful and fascinating. Thank you for your valuable comment. :)

Dear Evelyn, Your poem evokes the magic of summer nights and the enchantment of nature’s beauty. Your wonderful imagery of blooming flowers and the allure of dusk captivates the soul. As the opal night owl, you weave a tale of serenity and grace, embracing the mysteries of twilight. Thank you for sharing your lyrical journey, reminding us to cherish the moments when time dances in harmony with nature’s symphony. I know I would love to dance with nature. - Blessings, Daniel
