Mints At a Funeral

She died, so we're riding behind the hearse one car back. "Would you like a breath mint?", asks a woman dressed in black. Why at a death does someone offer a minty tic tac? She died so we're riding behind the hearse one car back. Beth died last week after suffering a heart attack. Please tell me why mints and death combine a dismal fact. She died, so we're riding behind the hearse one car back. "Would you like a breath mint?", asks a woman dressed in black.

Nice work with the troublesome Triolet form. A poem that sets the reader to squinty eyed thinking.

The awkwardness of riding in the hearse is well conveyed in this heartfelt poem. So sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Mints do help stave off hunger since funerals do seem long. I just had to remember not to crunch.

Engaging. Many people try to help at a time when all are helpless. So little acts of kindness are of comfort to them and they hope perhaps to you. People grieve differently and not all are aware they may do better to bear the awkward silence and just be there or be an ear or hold a hand. My condolences to you if you just lost a dear one.

It was a great aunt years ago. The giver of mints was very thoughtful to offer, but she seemed nervous.

Perhaps in lieu of a tissue. I hope you liked the silly poem.

Interesting title indeed, and your poem laid it right out there.

Yes, poem and deceased. Thank you

I don't know, maybe like Sara said, an awkward way to break the silence some folks find unbearable. Like, everywhere I go, elevator, doctor's office, commercial background-music to more deeply entrance. People afraid to be alone, and explore one's own thoughts. Well said. Blessings.

I feel alone until I become surrounded by a bunch of gossips. See sloppy Mouths Magic 9 by Udaets Melani. It is a resignstion of retirement. Thank you for reading my poem

interesting write, Hilda. In my experience, the ride in a hearse creates an uncomfortable silence so people are looking for even minor ways to fill that silence. Thought-provoking read. Enjoy your day, Sara

This intrigues with that circular in and out of consciousness feel of heavy distraction. Well written x

That conscious/sub conscious debate that comes from expressing artistically is massively exciting! I find the sub conscious can take me on a thrill ride regularly - getting in 'flow' is a beautiful experience. So much to explore with it and also how it'll tickle the recesses of another poets mind. There's a bit of magic there that the boring old conscious mind just doesn't grasp :)

Thank you. I'm not sure if my conscious or subconscious wrote it.
