Mind Games
She swam as if on a fairground ride
Laughing 'midst the rushing waves,
She frolicked in the running tide
An outing from her deep enclave.
I watched her antics from the pier
Scarce could I believe my eyes,
A mermaid! was she really here
Then she waved, to my surprise.
Sheepishly I waved along
Were my senses fooling me,
For in an instant she was gone
Naught but the waves, and rolling sea.
'Oft I saunter to that pier
Hoping I'll see her again,
Never though has she appeared,
I fear my mind was playing games.
