Milestone

A yell and a cheer! Our first egg is here! The gift from our new hens, The first of the year. And Anna came running, The egg in her hand as if `twere a diamond From some distant land. We all gathered close As she softly set down The first home-grown Of a soft, creamy brown. And from all the interest We gave that egg then, You'd think we had laid it Instead of the hen!
