Middle of the Nite

I can feel your echoes
I can see your shadows
Underneath my feet, underneath my feet
You defeat me with cruel, fowl words
But I won’t release my own like cage-free birds
Underneath my wings 
Underneath my wings

I gathered my thoughts together…
I shedded my tears for the better, for the better…
I’m quilting guilt in my soul…in my lonely soul…
I’m building heartfelt memories of peace as a whole
For a while, 
I’m here to smile 
For a while,
I’ll run the extra mile

I can feel a flight in my bones
I can hear my voice in many tones 
Underneath the surface

You repeat the negativity for years
But I don’t bear a thing of it with no tears
