Merciful Be - American Freedom

Our home, this earth, we did not own but, still we would not flee. The White man came and brought us death. O God, Be merciful to we. We Wiccan’s came to this far place with thoughts we would be free. All Nature was our finest God, O God, Be merciful to we. They cared not for our hearts desire as draught and comet fell, they burnt our brethren by decree, O God, Be merciful to we. Black men were brought from foreign shores next, cross the rolling seas... as slaves they lived, as slaves they died, Oh God, be merciful to we. Women, one and all, sought freedom from patriarchs degrees. Still, on we labor long for less Oh God, be merciful to we.

A good remembrance of the toils of many groups that have immigrated here. Each had their own scenario of hardships and oppressive circumstances. I really love ANYTHING about history. Thanks for your guidance on the haikus and the awesome link. I guess u are really trying to say this is all for fun, not a literature class, right? Thanks soooo much, Debbi. Gwendolen

Dear Deb, It's good to know we've come a long way from the days of slavery and witch burning. Still, there is more to be done so each individual feels a sense of equality. I'm so glad you supported Dane Ann's contest with this fine entry. Her theme inspired me so much. Wish others would enter as well. She's such a dear. And as for your comment, don't ever feel alone. I'm always here for you. Love, Carolyn
