Mental Intrusion

I find myself in a familiar place and lost once again. Well off my daily “straight and narrow.” Her intangible presence creating problems my mind has proven -far too weak to remedy… Like an ancient warrior consumed in battle, his shield swallowed in the swarm of the melee, unable to fend off the onslaught. Love like death seems imminent, as her smile and her eyes pierce without mercy… inflicting a thousand cuts. I’m conscious when the dreams return, too preoccupied, unable to wake constructive thoughts Damned by her, I’m compelled to thoughtfully meander, revolving around pleasures possibly impossible -straining to loan them a hint of truth. Fighting to maintain a grip on the unfathomable, while wildly reaching with both arms for the mirage. She is head of the state my mind is in, queen of a kingdom she herself made feeble. I leap recklessly off jagged edges in inside wonder worlds, and slaughter genuine feelings made vulnerable by the crash of the sudden waves of qualm. She makes countless visits between my wealth of emotions, and frequents my inner imageries until her path, well worn, has carved that familiar hurt. I give chase in speedy pursuit of her evanescent essence as it ambles, all too often fearing, I may have, so quickly...already -lost sight… Written 1 May 2014 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas
