Memories of My Daddy

MEMORIES OF MY DADDY (and maybe yours) Pa was always up 'fore the rooster crowed Buildin' the fire in Ma's wood burnin' stove With wood he'd chopped the night before And stacked neatly in the corner on the kitchen floor Then he'd go to the lot and feed the mules While they were eatin', he'd lay out his tools He would carefully select the things he'd need As the mules swished flies and chewed on their feed It wouldn't be long 'fore he'd come through the door And remind each child to finish their chore He'd wash his hands and he'd wash his face And hum along with Ma on Amazin' Grace He'd take his place at the table and bow his head And thank the Lord for our daily bread After eatin', he'd kiss Ma and say, “I love you” But I gotta go cause there's a lot I must do He'd hug all us younguns and say study hard in school Education's important, so don't cut the fool Learn all you can 'cause you all are real smart God blessed you with brains right from the start Help Ma clear the table, brush your teeth, comb your hair Do your chores when you get home, and do them with care And tonight when we read from God's Holy Word Remember each verse and each word you have heard Then later in life, I'm sure you will find God's Word is sufficient when you call it to mind Don't forget what I've taught you 'cause all of it's true And never forget how much I love you Curtis Moorman Father's Day 21 June 2009
