Memories

The shadows slowly creeping around the edge
of an old photo long forgotten, falling off my dresser's ledge.
It was hidden behind a post card I received long ago,
back when you were still vivid, standing outside my window.

Roaming around my room still in a daze from the despair,
of losing you, and not comprehending that you were no longer there.
What remnants were left of you made me happy but also sad,
all the things you said and did, no matter good or bad.

I still feel your presence lingering, clinging to me like smoke
but when I think of you, I tear up and I start to choke.
I can't breathe, my heart is heavy, my eyes fill with tears,
wishing that you were close to me, so I could hold you near.

The coffee-stained photo, I knew I could never ever get rid of
because it was a reminder of your comfort, care, and love.
You knew just what to say, and always knew what to do,
no other pain, will even begin to compare to losing you.

You were my rock, my heart, my soul, and the one person I could trust
I could talk to you about anything nothing ever going undiscussed.
You were my best friend, my soulmate, my one and only...
living without you, now THAT'S the definition of being lonely.

What once was there has all faded to black,
no going forward, but no going back.
Stuck in between the past and future,
trying to fix that gaping hole, with a poorly placed suture.
