Placed 2nd in Oliver McKeithan's Memorial Day contest, May 19, 2025

  ******************************************************************************

On the last Monday in May, once called “Decoration Day,” flags will fly half-mast till noon, then at full till dusk. The tune “Taps” will play and stir our pride. Honor is due those who died keeping freedom’s foes at bay. May, 28, 2022

Lest we forget is wonderfully encapsulated in each of your carefully chosen words and skillfully composed lines, Janice. The images of the flags and taps really work to convey the message of Memorial Day, honoring our fallen soldiers. Congratulations on your win. Blessings to you.

Bravo! We need to be more mindful of the depth of sacrifice that was made for us; too many believe it is the 'kick off' to summer. I can hear the somber sound of "taps" in your poem. Thank you. :)Paulette
