Memoirs

I go back there all the time
        in my mind when awake
        in my dreams when asleep

They say, ‘You can’t go back’
(so) I lurk unseen, in shadows
         a not-so-innocent bystander

     inspecting scenes for authenticity
     re-directing them, providing elasticity
        rewarding poignancy with canonicity

Perhaps you wonder what it’s like
to review the span of a rich lifetime
             I’ll let you know
             ~ go back there first

Much to Dieu about memories ... there's a lot to cipher through at 80 my friend. There's everything in there. Mystery, comedy, tragedy, romance, happiness, and despair etc ... I like your take on memoirs, my friend. BB

that 2d verse was priceless, setting the rest of the poem in motion. I loved 'inspecting scenes for authenticity.' well said, sir!

alas, Gershon, much has been redacted and/or deleted for purposes of self-preservation and re-examination
