Melancholy Mood

An overarching sadness
permeates my soul
it presses me down like a mighty wave
and sentences me to melancholy pergatory.

My morose mood
traps me in its entangled web
all is darkness, self pity and doubt
the light of day is ever elusive.

The hours turn like listless pages
in a worn out book of woes
colorless trees droop under a dreary sky
a mourning dove coos mercilessly.

The day drones on in monotone
weary thoughts drown in insignificance
the road to hope is lost in a mirky mire
until the weighty fog finally lifts
and the sun shines through once more.

Everybody gets the blues once in a while. Your poem portrays the feeling so well, Laura. I love the radiant sunshine at the end. :)

WoW! Laura, I echo what Charlotte said, this is a good description of melancholy. I can relate to it very well, there was a time in my life when I was in this state. Thank God I'm not anymore. Congratulations on your winning write. Have a great day and weekend:-) Alexis

Thank you, Alexis! I’m glad these moods only come once in awhile. Then I turn to God in prayer snd He always gives me hope! :)

Thank you, Daniel! I’m doing fine (at the moment) though have had some melancholy lately….comes and goes. I muddle through it somehow! Hope you are well, too, and thanks for your kind comments! :)

There will always come the day when we feel the sun shining upon us once more. Melancholia is a burden to bear, but it always passes... often not quickly enough. Fine lines expressing the mood, Laura.
