Meeting a Rhino

MEETING A RHINO

I was in a 'Rover
Seeing all the sights
An hour from Nairobi
Snapping birds in flight
Then I jumped out in the mud
Gazelle herd thundered by
Took some photos snap snap snap
Then the driver gave a cry
Turned around and saw him
A rhino big and bold
Munching on his giant lunch
I did what I was told
I stood as silent as a mouse
But snapped snapped snapped a bunch
Until the giant rhino
Had finished all his lunch.
He tossed his horn to bid adieu
And turned to walk away
My breath came out in giant gulps---

There’s nothing else to say.

This one is a hoot. I love word play and this is hilarious. "clutching the tail" Just too funny.

Lovely poem Victoria! It must have been a surreal experience. Love how you still went snap snap snap only to breathe once the rhino turned away. Nice!

It appears you had a close brush with disaster. In the middle of New Jersey, there is an amusement park that just announced it has plans to close its safari park. They had rhinos roaming freely up there. Good write.
