meant to be, but couldn't stay
We were right—
God, we were right for each other.
Same dreams,
same broken pieces
that fit like a puzzle no one believed in but us.
You knew how to calm my storms.
I knew how to catch your silence.
We built a fire that could’ve lasted forever—
if forever wasn’t so damn fragile.
But love isn’t always enough.
Not when timing cuts like glass.
Not when wounds run deeper
than either of us could reach.
We fought for it.
Fought hard.
But even warriors get tired
when they’re swinging at ghosts.
You needed more peace.
I needed less pressure.
And somewhere between the compromises and the “I’m sorry”s,
we forgot how to just be.
So we let go—
not because we stopped loving,
but because holding on
was starting to break us.
Now I see your name
and smile before it hurts.
I hope you do the same
when mine comes up.
Because we were never a mistake.
Just a moment the world couldn’t carry.
We were meant to be—
but we couldn’t stay.
