Notes About The Poem

May I Dance With You

May I dance with you now as ghosts ride with the breeze,
and that witch on her broom flies up high near the moon.
While black cats with green eyes stare at us from the trees,
we'll glide past jack-o-lanterns as we sway and swoon.

This night sky is on fire with the moon's eerie glow;
silhouettes of the treetops and roofs hug the sky.
As the spirits surround us, in darkness we know
we will dance, cheek to cheek, on this night, you and I.

Dance with me, come in close as bats swirl all around;
the night creatures are watching while I hold you tight.
As owls screech, my fangs pierce! Dracula loves the sound
while enjoying this blood feast on Halloween night!

Oh, it's me, don't you see? Blood will seep, time to weep!
Here I am, perfect scam! Fangs pierce deep! Now you sleep!

Tell me, my friend, have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight? One of my movie favorite lines. :) Well done Sandra! Congratulations on the win! Linda

What fun images emerge in your poem, Sandra! Stay away from anyone or anything with "fangs" this Halloween. Congratulations on your win! Best wishes, Carolyn

Thanks, Wendy. My first version was to keep it just a romantic dance but thought the surprise ending would better suit the 'Halloween' mood. Hugs, Sandra

Of course you can dance with me? Must be a slow dance though. Hi Sandra, a beautiful write that sings into a Halloween night. Such soft word, i picture a waltz, then again i always picture the waltz. You always paint such beautiful, soft pictures with your words Sandra, i do love to peruse each line slowly. I wish you well in the contest. Once more a fave and a seven are heading your way. Hugs....Mike. XX

Thank you very much, Mike. So nice of your to visit and read my poem. Yes, the meter is Anapestic which has a waltz-like beat. However, since you read this, I made a major revision more in keeping with the 'Halloween' scary theme. Thank you for the fave and seven too! Hugs back, Sandra

You can do the Mash, The monster mash. It was a graveyard smash. Just foolin around. Yours is quite a bit more romantic than that, Mrs Sandra. You have written a lovely Halloween dance poem. Good luck!
