Masterpiece
Trapt under a sandcastle of regret
On the seashore of apathy
While blissful ignorance rows by
The waves of denial cover me
Try as I may I cannot undig
Myself from this tomb of sand
For each grain is heavier than the last
And the edifice poorly planned
I call my friends to help me
But despite my cries they cannot hear
Over the crashing of the waves above
And the walls of their own castles I fear
The salty taste of bitter defeat
Is strong in the mouth of sin
Time is slow and the memory fast
Taking us back to where we begin
Promises broken and love unspoken
These hold me imprisoned
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
At last these waves have risen
Frothy and warm they cover up
My masterpiece so others can't see
The pathetic attempt to change
All the hurt feelings and memories
All light has vanished from my eyes
The bubbles of desperation grim
Even if these sands I could escape
Death awaits for I cannot swim
