I was inspired to write this when I found out I had a brother, I never knew.  After the death of our mother, and the science of technology we found each other.  I only wish my mother had been brave enough to face her truth while she was living.

Pieces of a life shattered, Broken shards of memories scattered, The ones I want to erase, The ones I want to replace. To reach down deep, searching relief, The agony, the sorrow, the painful grief. Dark hidden secrets, lay behind my smile; I fooled others and myself, for a while. The memory of you I carried alone, Secretly wishing the love I could have shown.

Yes, I was able to show my 'new found' brother the love he deserved until his death, in August of this year. Blessings, Paulette

By your comments to my writing, I know you already understand this: but, as with my writing, I think you, with yours, it is as much personal release as it is to open fresh conversation. Not one of us knows the truth -- what we know is what has been told to us, the truth, best they could, by those doing the telling. In that quagmire, perhaps is the real, yet to be told truth. We find it through understanding and compassion...never by judgement.

Thank you once again for visiting my page and commenting on my poems. You are right about not judging others.....I do not judge I only wish I could have helped her carry her burden that she took to the grave. Blessings, Paulette

OMG, Paulette! That you and your brother have found each other post-mortem (of your mother) is such a miracle. That you can feel your mother's pain is admirable, to say the least. Here's to Healing, Gershon

Hi Jo, Thanks for stopping by my page.....I think more than interesting it has been shocking. If you knew my mom you would be too. She was so proper it hardly seemed possible, but DNA and photos, (he looked just like my uncle) were facts enough. Blessings, Paulette

I encounter quite a bit of this in genealogy, and would encourage everyone not to let science do the telling! We are all humans doing our best to survive, so be honest with your loved ones!

Thanks for your comment.....Agreed....I wish there could have been more honesty from my Mom. However, I understand her angst as an unwed mother living in the 1940's she would have been deemed a "Scarlet Women".

Hi Harry, I am happy that my poem made the impact of such an impactful experience; his search finally ended....what was lost was found, and for me it was a treasure, I never knew I had.

Hi Andrea, yes, we were able to bond to some degree, but his life ended so abruptly, our time together was limited. But truly the most important thing is that we had the opportunity of any time at all.
