Mary and Joseph
© Ben Burton 12/17/2015
The chosen child was but a girl
Just barely in her teens
And frightened by what she had learned
For who would dare believe
She had not lain with any man
Yet she would soon conceive
Some mocked and scorned her for the tale
She carried Holy seed
Her fiancee grew angry and
Considered changing plans
Until an angel in a dream
Said, "Hear the great I AM
"For you and Mary will be blessed
Like none who came before
Protect her as a sacred gift
Her Son will be your Lord
Born unto you, Emanuel
Will rise as Jesus Christ
Your name, dear Joseph, will live on
As long as stars still shine"
And, thus upon one midnight clear
In little Bethlehem
A Heavenly boy was born to earth
Who changed the hearts of men
