Notes About The Poem

Here in the UK we have a spread called MARMITE, it's delicious spread on toasted bread for breakfast. When I travel abroad I always bring a jar with me.

Marmite

I like to start my day off right
With buttered toast and marmite
A vegetable extract that you spread
Across the surface of your bread.

So what’s it made off, what does it contain
Well thiamin, niacin and riboflavin
With B twelve vitamins and folic acid
Details you’ll find on the lid.

With barley, wheat, oats and rye
Love it or hate you’ve got to try
So there you have it I have you told
Its pure treasure, delicious black gold.

So next time that you go out to shop
Look for the black jar with a yellow top
You won’t be disappointed I’ll guarantee
I don’t own any shares no need to thank me.

Wow Tom, you make Marmite sound so delicious, and I trust that it is. Someday I will try it. I see how you started the (love it/hate it) great debate going. I'm glad I found this precious poem! I will always be reminded of you whenever I hear the word Marmite, for sure. xo

Thank you very much Anaya, it's a beautiful yeast extract spread that you put on toast, there are many uses too like putting on potatos too before roasting them. Over here you either live it or hate it. Hope you're keeping well. Tom

I truly enjoyed your poem, Tom, but there are two products which I have no desire to try out.....Marmite and Bovril...the jars put me off, but I am sure the producers won't change them just to convert me over:) Regards // paul

But is it organic? There is the catch! I try to avoid grains; however just for spreading once in a while on toast, I bet it's ok. I just can't imagine what it tastes like. Earth Balance is one of the best spreads for nutrition (I really like your poem)

Thanks Andrea, I checked but couldn't find it on any organic food list so maybe not. It has a strong savoury taste to it.Always put a skim of it on toast I find it's just enough. Tom
