Man's House
There’s backyard soccer clashes and test cricket matches,
a shrine to footy with posters on the wall.
Dirty dishes piled up high, washing, ironing ruffled lie …
a man's house with a lady's photo in the hall.
There are so many memories in this man's house.
These memories will never cease to end,
for in amongst these memories in this man's house,
is the memory of a mother, lover, and a friend.
Picking through the gentle parts; mending two broken hearts,
and all within the year she has been gone.
There's sadness from her leaving, though amongst their grieving,
she left one simple message - ‘please be strong.’
From silence felt within he has to keep on going,
raising his boy as both a dad and mum.
They're for each other now, but troubles still arise somehow,
at times forgotten what their partnership become.
The boy with time now grows and copes the way he knows,
finding solitude and strength in life.
And dad can hope to find that hurt will heal in time,
with love and strength off his departed wife.
There's so many memories in this man's house.
And these memories will never cease to end,
for in amongst the memories in this man's house,
is the memory of a mother, lover, and a friend.
