Mama's Girl
Knee high to a grasshopper
That was yesterday
I try to slow or stop her
But she refuses to stay
My baby she'll be
Until I am no more
She'll hold my memory
As I knock on Heaven's door
I often forget to remember
My task is planting a seed
The end of my fire, she is my ember
I'm hesitant due to greed
I want her to stay tiny
Legs around my hip
Adoration blinds me
I've become a sinking ship
Fighting the resistance
The cha cha is our dance
Moonwalking for instance
Rather than taking chance
She starves for sunshine
And plentiful water supply
My seed is to become a vine
Quickly spreading, crawling high
I die a little every day
As she needs me less and less
She's finding her own way
It hurts, I must confess
But heavy enough, my love
To suck in my bottom lip
She'll fall from my glove
So will begin her trip
I promise not to pry
Or enable her from seeing
With every ounce of strength, I'll try
To keep her heart believing
I'll tell her the good word
Assure her of her voice
Praying that she heard
When it's time to make her choice
A guardian angel, behind the side lines
Freedom, but not neglect
Mother bear won't intertwine
But see that the world gives her respect
Wherever I am
I won't be too far
If she's in a jam
I'll be hanging on a star
In mid July
I'll be the sun rays on her face
I'll give her wings, to fly
Teach her class and grace
In shadows I will live
And for her, I will pray
My last breath, I will give
I'll never, ever go away
