Magnificent Madness
Martyrs sacrifice for love amidst hateful norm
A madness and weakness to keep someone warm
Great words are writ but the gal made them an act
Now Bill the homeless vet’s a permanent fact
It was a few winters ago, in cold night
Found him coughing by the trash bin in fogged light
It weighed too hard on her to just let him freeze
“Come stay on the couch, it should give you some ease”
Ever the nurturer, she took a big chance
Nervous, and yet the moment, her life enhanced
These rare empathic souls give so readily
More than money, but hands that help steadily
And so three years on and Bill’s now on the porch
Dealing with demons, till all patience is scorched
“Nuts! Only a deranged mind would act like that!”
Endurance wanes then they recall where he’s at
Some days are worse, but he found a job at last
Seems house restoration keeps away his past….
