Magical Country
Rooster’s melody,
wakes me daily, putting me in great mood.
woodland creatures with cat food in mind,
prance on my porch nightly.
Raccoon slapping each other over crackers,
left in yard by prissy grandchildren.
Deer in a meadow of wild strawberries lean toward
Happy yellow dandelions and lively purple-headed clover
Magical faerie gardens and mushroom toad houses
A haven for July’s dragonfly brigade
Chatterbox bluejay takes turns with scarlet cardinals.
Until the deer arrive, to bat feeders against trunk
to eat food off the ground.
Daily robin song announces cat creeping up steadily.
Country sunshine, dew-covered grass, nothing like it.
