Magdalena Number 7

"MAGDALENA #7"

it's been three days since I've eaten.
today,
for some unknown reason,
I wanted a maple bar.
I got up,
grabbed a smoke and walked to the doughnut shop up the way.
I messaged Magdalena and told her where I was going.
"you and your damn maple bars.
why haven't you eaten?"
"I don't know,"
I said.
"that hunger just hit from out of nowhere."
"you need to eat,"
she said.
"a coke and a maple isn't food.
it's junk."
it was good to be looked after,
no way I could tell her why I wasn't eating.
all I needed,
was a little of her at that very moment to remind me why,
I shouldn't leave this earth.
