Made in Man's Image

Man was made in the image of God
to worship Him, and His will applaud.
But sin has created a rift
causing man’s affection to shift.

Sin has made mankind a rebel
and caused pride in his heart to swell.
Some men say God does not exist
while to heaven they raise a fist.

Man seeks to make God in his image
as he tries with God to scrimmage.
In his mind, he becomes a god
and makes gods that like him, are flawed.

God in man’s image does not judge
he allows him to steal, cheat, and fudge.
There are no laws for man to obey,
issues are not black or white, just grey.

The god, man makes, is beneath him,
hence, he is subject to man’s whim.
When man thinks God is not in charge
his ego is wont to enlarge.

But when Man finds himself in a jam
and trouble like water break the dam,
when his world begins to quake and shake
Man discovers his god is a fake.

The gods created in man’s mind
are like the carved wood and stone kind.
They are useless and helpless to him
when his future looks dark and grim.

The needs that out of man’s heart spill
only Creator God can fulfill.
Man’s soul is restless within him
until he finds his rest in Him.

The faster man stops playing God
and delights His will to applaud,
the sooner he stops believing lies,
God’s Spirit will open his eyes.
