Love's Exquisite Flame

Loneliness is but a cruel jest,
deleting your heart's unanswered call.
And although it began as a quest,
your hopes of finding true love grew small.
Accepting lust as a form of love;
depression drowns your frustrated heart.
And yet, you struggle to rise above;
placing the blame on Hope's naive start.
A wounded warrior reaps no fame,
reliving battles lost to the past.
For though forged in love's exquisite flame;
fragmented memories failed to last.
While pursuing love with bated breath,
you test the edge of forbidden thrills.
And take your pleasure in taunting Death;
downing liquid fire and magic pills.
Disappointment draws your troubled soul
toward the shadows, away from light.
And levies an emotional toll;
triggering feelings of fight or flight.
