...Love This World

"Do not love this world"
was a mystery to me
a world full of history and beautiful things
why not love what God has created
the system, the seasons
the things that grow
the new thing you did'nt know
the spinning pin wheel watch it go

do not love this world
or desire to see it's wonders
crumbling under the weight of time
plundered by the dogs of war
polluted by the folks next door
while vacationing abroad

do not love this world
for what so ever the Lord giveth
evil can take it all away
like a thief in the night
we neither know the time
nor the day
or that our freedom can be taken away
by the things we foolishly love
our drugs, our beautiful things

do not love this world
of vain riches, sorry excuses
ungranted wishes, illusive dreams, fantastic schemes
and that job that never did amount to success
our will to live nourished by dreams and wishes
and sometimes
that is all

do not love this world
and count your blessings
my body has not paid the ultimate cost
nor my mind conceived the greatest lost
of what warriors and parents have paid
on the treacherous path that was laid
before the foundation of the world
do not love this world

do not love this world-its so easy to form idolatries of the beautful things, people surrounding us,but yes so true we musnt love this world.we were not born to be here forever,so we must think of the better world--the land of no sorrows--great reminder--cheers--charma

I love the line that says.."do not love this world of vain riches, sorry excuses...that is brilliant! We have been given a world that is so much more....we need to see and appreciate. Well done, John ! ~ Carrie

why can't we just take the time to appreciate god's beauty for, it is all around us, unfortunately so is all the evil and ugliness as you so describe. Well written power piece!

There are many things in this world that prompt feelings other than love, but as you say in your first verse, it is what God has given us. Hopefully, we can try to change some of the problems you addressed; it's the only world we have. Very compelling write, John! Love, Carolyn

I agree for the things of the world cannot bring such eternal happiness. Thank you for commenting my poem. I felt like making a choka into an acrostic just to try something different. I always love reading your comments because you bring such lifting joy to my essence. -Alley
