Love Marilyn

The dream had gone.
When you walked out.

I dare not look into the mirror.
For fear of seeing monsters.

Oh no, it's not me that's the monster.
It's those who have walked on me.

Used me, abused me, including me. " maybe".
I've wondered, can you really love another?

I've always wondered is it humanly possible.
Drugs, yes drugs were my friends. " sometimes".

Tis true, I knew they were false friends.
Just like everything, and, everyone else in my life.

Well now, I see they have locked me away.
They ask me why wasn't I happy there.

But you should have seen those dark gray walls.
They wanted me to mingle, or, play dominoes.

Finally, someone saved me from that hell hole.
It was Joe, the one that knew how to throw a ball.

We were married once, he just didn't like my dress.
Didn't like the way it flew up, it was all a mess he said.

I wonder who will bring me flowers when it's over?

Superbly penned! I am no champion of free verse, trust me, but this is real poetry - Breathtaking! You have captured the essence of this immortal beauty and her tragic life perfectly! Strangely what comes through even more strongly than Marilyns sadness is that of poor Joe Dimaggio. Doubly tragic: This man loved her not for what she represented...but for what she was...not who she was supposed to be...but what she could be. A great love story untold, methinks. My best regards, Debbie. :-) john

Well, I wonder what has you thinking about this? Sad story of unhappiness when there should be oodles of joy. She did have amazing talent in a certain way. I really like how you have put this into this form. It takes imagination.

Joe brought her flowers! I think every day or month or something like that, diidn't he? Too bad she could not have just settled down and made a nice drug free life with him. I enjoyed this one!
