Love Letter

I saw you many times throughout the years
and knew you as the brother of my friend.
How is it that the world can coax and steer
us to or from the person fate intends?
For seven sunless years, you hid from sight,
just waiting in the wings for unknown cue.
My heart was burning out with waning light,
but you were coming slowly into view.
I know we took each other by surprise -
I never thought you'd be the one to light
the flame that once burned softly in my eyes;
with tenderness, your love restored my sight.

Now even on the darkest days, I shine
to know your noble heart is truly mine.

Well Heather, I am speechless so all I can do is second Andrea's comment below and she should know...I have nicknamed her "The Sonnet Queen of the Soup" so I do now dub thee "The Princess" of the same and yes, I counted the syllables in each line and every one has ten... ALSO whoever this guy is, he's a VERY lucky fella...

SONNET PERFECTION. I have to fave this just for the fact alone that it was perfectly metered, and you used enjambment, which so few people use. (not to mention, the whole idea of it was stellar - discussing a love that was always meant to be) So sweet, Heather.

That is such a compliment coming from the Queen of Sonnets herself! Thank you so much, Andrea :)

Such a beautiful sonnet reminds me of an eternal flame burning - I think many relationships do flourish unexpectedly between friends it just needs to be the right time for them to realise it :-) hugs Jan xx
