Love Is a Bond
I met my friend Jack in the schoolyard-
I was Ojibwe, he was Cree and we were lonely;
And from big bullies he became my bodyguard;
He told me things looking at me hard;
Whispering to me about our culture- words for me only;
Both our souls and hearts were deeply scarred.
And there was a love that has lasted time;
We walked hand in hand in parks, the woods and churchyard;
He taught me First Nation teachings so sublime;
Now, I visit my friend in a graveyard-
A bond of love only.
