Love Gone Astray

There were times when I knew the hard past was a bear, and when most of the days of my life were unfair. It was during my moments of weakness I stood, far away from the damage of timely despair. Could I feel the cold fever of love gone astray, with much worry and anguish brought forth to my day? I need not things that cure heartache, just romance pure, in a light of not knowing if you would be there. Is this heartbreak a curse that I’ll always endure? Must I always be absent from love to uphold, when this rush of excitement has always been told. It was when I least noticed that you were my hope, and when you came from solace outside in the cold. Can I ever be rid of the times when I’m pained, where I need not good moments that never remained. So I sit here and ponder on love gone astray, with much torment and trouble that had to be sold. There were times when I knew not if I should have stayed. Anapestic Tetrameter - Poetry Contest Craig Cornish January 8th, 2018
