Love From a Tongue Tied Lover

You lie besides me deep in sleep.
Moonlight beams light up your face.
I stare at the dark contours of your face,
your lips slightly apart, breathing softly in sleep.
I whisper in your ear, softly, kindly, sweetly:
I love you dear, you know not how much.
You stir, you sigh, and softly say:
repeat again what you've just said.

What can I do but comply
I love you dear, you know not how much.
But why is it that I am unable
to utter such endearment when you're awake?
What kind of beast am I?

Your sleepy eyes flutter wide awake,
you breathe slowly down my neck,
lips meet, arms entwine, and we become one.
Say it again you fool, I tell myself, say it again.
But I am tongue tied, mute like a broken violin.
I kiss, I hug, I love but speak not.
Indeed, what kind of beast am I?

It happens.... either you are diffident or shy. Sometimes, it may be due to a false sense of ego. Whatever it be, it is sad that one cannot express one's love in words. Enjoyed this greatly romantic write with a touch of realism in it ! However be assured, you are no beast, but an angel....

Hi Victor, I found this well-written write very romantic. Some never utter the words “ I love you” but love is “in” everything they do. On the other hand, someone says “ I love you” and their actions say otherwise. I'd rather have the one that doesn't say it and shows me every day in their actions. Great job:-)Alexis

Men do have more problems with verbal expressions of love and some women as well. I enjoyed reading your work which applies to so many people in our world. Your visit to my page was encouraging. Sara

You're no beast Victor. But unable to say what one feels i can relate to, nobody in my childhood ever said "I Love YOU" so i found it hard for many years.. Great Poem, Yes it speaks for so many i'm sure.

My husband was like that. He could always tell me with great detail what was wrong with me but could never say "I Love You." We grew apart because I felt he couldn't find anything right with me. Lovely piece my friend. \God Bless, JB

Although your sentences communicate far more than you intended and that your magnificent heart is constantly throbbing with profound affection, you ultimately find the right words. This is one of my all-time favorites.

Being deep in love does that to you. But in time you find the right words. Tom

For some reason I thought of this quote by Shakespeare when reading your poem. “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.”...Delice

Superbly sensual write, Victor. Tender whispers of love. Love has its own language to communicate.

Ooh this is a poignant one! Men often have a hard time expressing themselves. I think my dad is an exception. Well done! Hugs ~ Kim

Victor, sometimes words, even those whispered, cannot communicate love as much as the look in one's eyes. Your lines say more than you think.
