Love Boats

Despite the crisp chill
She wandered to the pebbled shore.
Cold water washed her tender feet.

At last, she sat beneath a pine tree
on a shaven log, shaped like a bench
A train of thoughts passed through her muddled mind.
She wondered if life was passing her by.
She shrugged. There was nothing she could do.

A grey gull screeched overhead. She laughed.
Ships, small or large, would go on their way,
Especially love boats on their route to exotic shores,
but she had to stay put,
Until he came back to her again.

Then she would be euphorically happy once more.
Thus she dreamed and fantasized,
moulding her life according to her standards.

But love cannot be forced
nor found on love boats.
They are created deep in the heart
or as was her case, lost at sea
in a terrible turbulent storm.

When you live near the sea you gain a healthy respect for the ocean but it can never be taken for granted......

Poignant and profound, Victor. It's nice catching up to some of your poems today. We had a death in our family this week. So even though I had the week off it's been difficult getting over here. The nephew who died was only 29.

It is always sad when a young person dies. My sister died at age 16 but that was a long time ago and there was no cure for her. They will be in my thoughts. Hugs.

I like the last stanza lines 1,2, and 3. Truth can be found there. A couple has to work on a relationship all the time for it to keep on keeping on. Life is not easy and each person has to work through those tough times and then as a couple they have to work through those tough times. Enjoyed reading your work. Thanks for the visits to my page. Such a sad poem, Victor. I have a sister in-law that when she was young she lost her husband on a fishing boat out on a storm. Hugs Eve

Such emotion, sadness and longing fill the lines of this expressive verse. You did a wonderful job of vividly bringing to light the woman's feelings and state of mind. Alas! The sea can be cruel. :)
