Love And Hate And The Human Brain
love and hate and the human brain,
does it come from the same place,
as compassion and kindness and empathy?
Does every thrum of yearning heart
conceal beneath its warmth a latent ache,
a shadowed chamber where the darker urges stir?
When dawn’s soft light awakes the tears of hope,
do those tears share kinship with the salt of grief?
Is tender mercy but the mirror of disdain?
Within the vault of thought, two rivers flow—
one clear with gentle currents,
one dark with fevered undertow.
Yet in the secret crossing of their streams,
where light and shadow briefly touch,
the soul discovers both its peril and its grace.
For in the tangled roots of feeling’s tree,
the blossoms of forgiveness
breathe life from soil once stained by rage.
Thus in the human brain’s twin halls,
love and hate and kindness dwell entwined,
each born of the same yearning for connection.
