Notes About The Poem

Author's Notes:   This is a "Tanka" or a Japanese verse form write on the subject of "Love."  For this write, I've looked at "Love" from the perspective of it being a most emotive force and that intangible something that is so special to all of us as human beings.  As most may be aware, "Love" can both be a rational and an irrational force which can and does shape people individually, as a couple, or even in a group.  It can also make people very happy and can make them very sad, depending up the circumstances at hand.  When two people meet and fall under Love's mesmerizing influence, it acts as that all-important catalyst and synergy which can unite two people as one in heart, body, and soul. This particular view about "Love" actually reflects very much my own personal view of how this powerful emotional force can shape the destiny of two people or can tear their lives asunder.  The syllable count for this Tanka is:  5-7-5-7-7 (for a total of 31 syllables). Love

Love’s most emotive,
And so special to us all.
It’s all-consuming . . .
Capturing the hearts of two . . .
Binding flesh, blood, soul as one!

Gary I have to say, I find your "Notes" as fascination as your poetry, and never cease to read all the way through them, and more than once.

Jerry, Thanks so much for you great comments here!! Yup - The notes are quite important for each of my writes. I do them as a historical record of each poem, and since I'm working on my first poetry book for eventual publication next year, they help to keep me on track with everything. Also, I use them to reflect my rationale for each poem and for the poem's technical details. Best Wishes, Gary

Thanks Andrea!! I too really like the last line here. This theme, with some of the words I've used in the Tanka, might make a great starter for a really nice Sonnet?? Don't you think so?? I will be over to check out your poems too!! We're all so busy . . . but "fun" busy with our respective writes. Best Always, Gary

That's such a powerful and heartwarming tanka you've penned here my dear friend, Gary! Yes, true love can be all this you've described here and much much more that depending on the person too as they draw or define love with purity in their own heart. 7 ++++ for me! :) Love and hugs! xxx D.
