Loudest In the Neighborhood - Part 1

I have the loudest woodpecker in the neighborhood! He starts around 5 am, hammering on the hard wood. I’ve even caught him at some of the metal roofing too! I’m not sure what’s up with that, what he’s trying to do? One thing is for sure, he’s big, black, red and white. He didn’t seem to like being disturbed, when I was in close sight. I’ve never heard one this loud, hammering on...with all his might! No kidding, it’s beginning to sound like a construction site! Heidi Sands 5/21/21

Hi Heidi, they are so cute and so colorful, and I would love to have one in our garden. I also love Kingfishers. When we still had our boat and the boys were with us and could help, before going to University, we often used to visit a particular dam and we always saw Kingfishers near the water and woodpeckers and owls at night on the land. All three are my favs. Your poem is beautiful! Hugs and blessings Jennifer.

I love the birds too, JB. Even though this one is a challenge. I had to research deterrents for metal roof on house , such as balloon, aluminum foil or pin wheels so that it doesn't end up damaged. He can still be missed if he leaves for longer periods with no banging anywhere lol. Thank you for you your comment. God Bless :)

That's a very loud one, Heidi, I think they do that to identify their territory

Oh yes, Vijay. Active here lately. 2 big bear going through neighbors yard daily, turkey here today and this hammering woodpecker. Quite something at dinner with window open as he hammered on metal! Lol. Thank you for your comment :)

Hi Tom. There are many kinds of woodpecker around here. Some came to the suet feeder all winter. But wow, this one is very loud. I also hope I don't lose too much sleep lol. He is at it constantly, with short breaks between. Thanks for the visit :)

Red-headed woodpeckers are inveterate drillers. It's a wonder they don't drill their heads off.

That's funny...lol. I think you may be right about it being a red-headed woodpecker L Milton. I know of the Pileated ones that are even bigger.
