Loud Silence

On a quiet, sunny afternoon
In the serene countryside
A few birds rendered melody
The only sound that did abide

An elderly neighbor, now passed on
From a home across the ravine
His buzzing saw at times was heard
Or a hammers ring was oft' routine

The silence that, there now prevails
Tells a story loud and clear
A trademark of someone we knew
Is no longer there, for us to hear

We take for granted so many times
Until abruptly, they are gone
Yes, silence makes us realize
The missing sounds of a new dawn

Perhaps the silence in a room
Where once a snore was heard
Echos a memory of yesterday
Now all is quiet - it seems absurd

From that usual spot in a restaurant
Where a laughs no longer heard
Or a phone that rang most every day
But now - - there is no word

Yes, this could appear in many ways
But that quiet time will reveal
How bold and loud silence really is
As we pray for time to help us heal.

This poem is perfection at its touch. Silence can be loud. A graceful poem to be honest. :) Wow..speechless ~ JWE a 7

Colan, I really like this poem. It makes you think about the things that change and the things you miss when someone leaves this earth. Great job! Lanette Kissel

This poem was derived from an actual occurrence. It happened after a 94 year old neighbor that lived about a quarter mile from me across a ravine, passed away.

I enjoyed reading your poem, Colan! Makes you think of all the little things we take for granted, until they are gone. Love, Kim
