A child that glimpse a future peace
should never hear discord
between those trusted leaders’ lease
that didn’t a honour abort.

A promise that couldn’t be fulfilled—
the playground no longer;
the laughter gone from children
once soaked in sun and play.

Some rummage in their search to please
the gatekeepers at court—
most agendas that dazzle, tease
accord from hope’s retort.

Laughing and fawning ne’er do well,
as the donkey’s head in the play*
will bray and be lost to reason
amongst the light of dawn.

My inner child still gasps for peace.
The light to shine – afford
to dream o' eventual release
of smorgasbord rapport.

Dear Suzette, congratulations for your success in Craig's contest with your exception and expressive poem. Splendid use of potent and poignant imagery. Especially striking was "the laughter gone from children/once soaked in sun and play" -wow! Warmest wishes.. ~Susan
