Loss of Appetite (The Heat)

LOSS OF APPETITE (the heat)

Things don’t even look good
I’ve opened a can of tuna fish
Because –
Fish is supposed to be good for you (iodine)
150 calories in the whole 5 ounce can
(by the way – the can used to be 6 ounces
they kept the price the same but…
     sneaky bastards!)
Mix-in some ranch and a hard-boiled egg
Good diet food
It’s smart to keep one’s weight down during hot months
I dump the concoction onto a bed of lettuce
                                               and other veggies
Set it in front of me
Take one bite –
Nope!
It didn’t even look good
And now that I’ve forked a load –
It didn’t smell too good either
There’s a part-Persian sitting (laying) in the window
She’s trying to catch just one wisp of cool air
So?
I only used half the can
I don’t think Mahitabel likes ranch
But what the hell
Give the poor scorched kitty a treat
I empty the half-can in her bowl
It doesn’t look good to me – sitting there in its oil
Doesn’t look good to Mahitabel either

Daver, your Mahitabel must be wise. That tuna was most likely mercury-filled! A definite delight to read this p.m. Have a good weekend. Love, Audrey

hahaha-- you sure are funny Daver ^_^ enjoyed this one too-- and yeah they sure are sneaky with those cans!! & what an unusual name for a cat, Mahitabel--over here it's also been really hot- seems like summer hasn't truly left yet though we do get the occasional thunderstorm--it should be the rainy season over here now though---& that's so cool, having some chapbooks for your childhood memories-- I'm sure that it was loads of fun! --nikko :)

You gave me quite a laugh thinking about Mahitabel turning her nose up on the tuna. Food never tastes very good to me when it's hot outside. Maybe our taste buds dry up? Loved your poem. It reminded me of the pop-top tuna cans I used to keep in my hurricane emergency supply kit. Indeed, they're low cal and very good for you. Well done, Daver! Love, Carolyn
