Loss and Gain

LOSS AND GAIN

When autumn drives the sunny days away

And larks begin to gather in the sky,

The bright gold light is darkened into gray

And treble soft falls silent from on high:

The silent days must shorten with a sigh.

Now harvest workers gather in the fall

Of apples, pears and plums – it’s quite a haul.
