Longing
Never did this land become
A place to call my only home.
Every step I took I marched
Into a void, my heart destroyed
By longings for another place.
Earth, arrayed in greens and blues
Cannot compete with countless hues
Unseen above, untold, unthought.
And so my soul, would not control
Its longing for that other place.
Watching creatures winged fly on
Did hurt within to follow yon.
Would flight have given me a chance
To reach the heights, from dreams of nights
Where sleep did show my heart that place?
Never could this land become
A place to call my only home.
My home awaits beyond all thought,
Beyond our eyes, beyond the skies
That beckon me to reach that place.
One day soon I will be home
A place where I can now belong.
A home where tears are wiped away, where
Death is dead, and sin is fled
Till then, shall I long for that place.
