Longevity

Longevity

What endures in this material world?
What escapes the creeping hand of rust
Motheaten, our memories unfurl
The beauty of the rose lost in rose dust.

Hard gemstones splinter beneath time’s pressure
Mold invades the gowns sown of silver
The artist’s paint crazes, past their endeavor
Even the sun burns towards it’s fiery end.

For such a time as this each day comes
Facing wrinkles of time, starlight’s frailty,
Under the wind whipped, battered, labarum
The withering heart knows one true reality.

Only love never rusts, never ages,
Eternal, the dancing soul on Heaven’s stage.

Phenomenal poem, Sam. I think this is the best sonnet I have read on PS. Powerful message, masterfully crafted. An instant fave.

Dear Sam, your poem is fantastic. It expertly explores mortality and love with a distinct structure and a variety of metaphors that contrast the ephemeral physical world with eternal love.

Thank you so much, CayCay. I didn't know what to say and felt like I just threw this together. But, that being said, I look back on this sonnet and appreciate the effort and the finished product. Sending you blessings of joy!

"Only love never rusts, never ages, Eternal, the dancing soul on Heaven’s stage." Everything will rust and rot in course of time. The only thing that endures and lasts longer is love. ":Hard gemstones splinter beneath time’s pressure Mold invades the gowns sown of silver" Love these lines. Beautifully expressed dear Sam. All the Best.
